A slow-running computer is one of the most widely received complaints that PC support teams get from their customers.
There are many reasons that my computer is running slow. In fact, there are too many of them to mention. However, there are recurring factors that are responsible for why my computer is running slow. Most of these problems have been looked into and studies so hopefully, it can help in speeding up the computer.
Viruses and Spyware
These two are the common culprits that should be looked into when the computer doesn't cooperate. First when you're online, downloading multiple things at the same time can cause your PC to slow down because of the viruses and spyware that come along with the files you're getting. It seems like people never run out of bugs and viruses to create. Even though several anti-virus programs have been used, the best antivirus programs are those that do not eat up a lot of the system resources. This is one huge consideration that you have to make. Also, you have to update your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs frequently. Virus and spyware makers catch up with the programs immediately. As soon as the program detects a new set of viruses, virus makers make new viruses that cannot be detected by the program. That's why you have to update your antivirus and anti-spyware program frequently.
Operating System Problems
Accept the fact that as your computer ages, your operating system will encounter problems. Your computer is a wonderful gadget that allows you to do so many things. It's inevitable to abuse the powers of your computer. That's why you have to address the problems during their early stages. Even though you have a lot of software CDs in your house, you can't lose most of them, especially the installation CD and recovery disk of the operating system. Once in a while, you have to re-install your operating system to give your computer a fresh start.
How often should you reinstall your operating system? Ideally, you should reinstall it once a year. However, for someone who is very particular about computers, re-installation should be done 2-3 times a year. There may even came a point when re-installation should be done once every 2 months, but this is highly unnecessary.
Low Disk Space
Everyone can relate to this problem. In fact, excessive downloading of movies and games may be the reason my computer is running very slow. To avoid this from happening to you, become mindful of the free space in your hard disks because adequate disk space is needed for the computer to run at a fairly acceptable speed. Your RAM depends on your disk space. Think of your computer as a range rover getting through a narrow dirt road. How do you expect it to go faster on a narrow road? You need to be aware of how much free disk space you have each time you install a new application or run several applications at one time. Computer experts have also stressed the importance of using a registry cleaner when my computer is running slow. A registry cleaner is a program that's responsible for cleaning the registry. The registry is where the hardware and driver information are stored. It's inevitable for the registry to weaken as time progresses. When this happens, your computer will crash, freeze, or slow down.
